JAM GADANG (CLOCK TOWER)

There are 4 clocks with a diameter of 80 cm each on this tower. The clock was imported directly from Rotterdam, the Netherlands via Teluk Bayur harbor. This clock is mechanically driven by a machine made only two units in the world, the Jam Gadang itself and Big Ben in London, England.

Clock and clock machine are located at one level below the top level. At the bell we can find the name of the watchmaker, Vortmann Relinghausen. Vortman is the last name of the watchmaker, Benhard Vortmann, while Recklinghausen is the name of a city in Germany where he manufactured the clock machine in 1892.

FORT DE KOCK

Fort de Kock is a Dutch heritage fortress that stands in Bukittinggi City, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The fort was founded by Captain Bouer in 1825 during Baron Hendrik Merkus de Kock's time as commander of Der Troepen and the Deputy Governor General of the Dutch East Indies, which is why this fort is famous as Fort De Kock.

The fortress which is situated on top of Jirek Hill is used by the Dutch Army as a stronghold of the Minangkabau people since the outbreak of the Padri War in 1821-1837. In the vicinity of the fortress there are ancient cannons of the 19th century period. In the following years, around this fortress grows a city which is also named Fort de Kock, now Bukittinggi.

JAPANESE TUNNEL

Japanese Tunnel was built as a storage place of supplies and equipment of the Japanese army, with a tunnel length that reaches 1400 m and winding and has a width of about 2 meters.

A number of special rooms are located in this tunnel; among them are a reconnaissance area, ambush room, prison, and armory.

NASI KAPAU

Nasi Kapau is a unique rice from Kapau, Tilatang Kamang, Agam regency, West Sumatra. Nasi Kapau consists of rice, sambal, and side dishes typical Kapau, jackfruit curry (cubadak), tunjang curry (buffalo legs or cow legs), cangcang curry (bone and meat buffalo), babek curry (buffalo belly). Standard Nasi kapau is always equipped with jackfruit curry, typical of nasi kapau. The jackfruit curry does not use a lot of coconut milk and not too thick. The curry mixed with long beans, cabbage, bamboo shoots, ferns, and jengkol. In addition to the jackfruit curry, almost all the rice side of Nasi Kapau consists of meat dishes.

Intestine curry (gulai tambunsu), chicken eggs mixed with tofu that are inserted into the cow's intestines (because of buffalo intestines are harder), fish curry, tunjang curry, roasted chicken, balado anchovies, balado mackarel, beef dendeng with chili, fried eel, and green chili sauce. Side dishes of other Nasi Kapau in the form of fried chicken, fried chicken with green chilli, chicken curry, chicken rendang, and beef rendang. The Rice for Nasi Kapau must be of high quality, generally sent from Bukittinggi and Agam.

ANAI VALLEY

Anai Valley is one of the famous waterfalls and became the tourism mascot in West Sumatra. The people of Padang used to call it Aia Tajun or Aia Mancua Anai Valley. This waterfall is about 35 meters altitude is part of the river flow Batang Lurah Dalam from Mount Singgalang that leads to Anai area. This waterfall is in the western Anai Valley Nature Reserve. There are three waterfalls in this location, one of which is located on the roadside is often known as the Anai Valley Waterfall.

While the other two waterfalls are covered by dense forest, so not widely known by the public. Tourists who want to see the two waterfalls can travel about 15 minutes from the location of Anai Valley Waterfall. Not far from the location of this waterfall there is a large rocky river, with clear water. Above the river, there is a Dutch railway relay bridge.
